Blue Green Chromis (Chromis viridis)
These beautiful little fish can be found in large schools above thickets of corals in sheltered areas such as subtidal reef flats and lagoons of the Indo-Pacific - from the Red Sea to the Line, Marquesan, and Tuamoto islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands and south to New Caledonia.
Our small school can usually be found near the surface in close proximity to our coral outcropping or in our large Elkhorn coral toward the rear of the aquarium. They like to school tightly and prefer to feed on phytoplankton.
Males take on the family duties of preparing the nest for spawning, guarding it against potential predators and ventilating the fertilized eggs by fanning them with his tail fin.
