Eyestripe Surgeonfish (Acanthurus dussumiieri)
This fish makes its home in the Indo-Pacific from East Africa to the Hawaiian and Line islands, north to southern Japan, and south to Rowley Shoals.
It likes to hangout near seaward reefs at depths greater than 30 feet and usually occurs singly or in small groups. It feeds on surface film of fine green and blue-green algae, diatoms, and detritus covering sand and can attain sizes of nearly 2 feet in length.
This is one of my favorite Surgeonfish because it gets along surprisingly well with other Surgeons and has a great temperament.
